I
thrive on being a right and left brain thinker. While I've
always had a passion to create, I've also had an interest in
analytic pursuits and have balanced my work as an artist with
occasional financial consulting. I utilize this left brain
element throughout my work by problem solving around technical
obstacles, being a perfectionist and finding ways to incorporate
detail. I find that this creates my optimal balance. The
process of making art allows me to be completely absorbed by the
process, evoking a meditative focus free of distraction.
Vibrant colors
and interesting textures deeply inspire me and are a consistent
theme throughout my work. My current works of jewelry include
mosaics of inlaid beads that are created through a meticulous
process of
placing seed beads by hand with tweezers, then setting them in a
cement solution to hold them securely in place. These pieces
have been described as having "contemporary Native American and
Western flare". Other current works include multidimensional
necklaces and flower shaped pendants created by weaving gemstones,
glass, ceramic, and wood. Each of these pieces require careful
calculation of curvature, drawing upon my tendency to balance right
and left brain stimulation.
My Pastel
works also encompass my passion for color and texture. They
are velvety, soft and inviting while remaining rich in vivid color.
My ""Endless Roads" series, inspired by my travels around the world,
features voluptuous curvature throughout the hills and roads and can
evoke a longing for exploration of paths and roads infrequently
traveled. My "Flowers" series highlights large single bloom
flowers and has been described as the "Poor man's Georgia O'Keefe".
Part of the
enjoyment I find in making art is the trial and error method of
discovering new mediums and techniques. Switching back and
forth between mediums offers rejuvenation and keeps my perspective
fresh and innovative.
While I enjoy
spending a good deal of my time developing my artwork, jewelry, and
other craft explorations I also use the analytical side of my brain
as a part-time financial consultant and enjoy working with
Non-profit organizations in the Art Industry. Jackson Hole has been
home for about 11 years not only because I enjoy living an outdoor
lifestyle, but I also love being a part of a mountain community that
embraces local art. While being
near the mountains is important to me I also love to travel and have
spent time in South and Central America, Mexico, Africa and Europe.
I also spend time in the summers on Nantucket. I'm always up for an adventure and continue to explore
the world looking for new experiences and inspirations.
